Indiana Jones Gets Gorgeous Hair, Thanks to NVIDIA’s RTX Hair
NVIDIA’s new RTX Hair tech is making its debut in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, giving characters more realistic, fuller-looking hair with minimal performance loss. A recent comparison shows the striking difference ahead of the game’s September update.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is getting a visual upgrade, thanks to NVIDIA’s new RTX Hair technology. A recent comparison video highlights just how much more natural characters look with the feature switched on, and the difference is hard to miss.
RTX Hair takes a new approach to rendering by ditching the old triangle-based method and instead using spheres and tubes to build each strand. This allows hair to interact with light and shadows in a far more realistic way, giving characters fuller and softer-looking styles. The tech may sound similar to NVIDIA’s older HairWorks or AMD’s TressFX, but it’s actually a leaner, more efficient solution designed with ray tracing in mind rather than complex physics.
Performance-wise, the impact is surprisingly small. On an RTX 5090, enabling RTX Hair only shaves off about two to five frames per second. That’s a tiny hit considering the leap in visual fidelity, especially when hair has long been one of gaming’s trickiest details to get right.
Behind the scenes, RTX Hair is powered by a new type of geometry called Linear Swept Spheres (LSS), supported by NVIDIA’s 50-series GPUs. These allow hair strands to be rendered more accurately while also reducing VRAM usage, which means smoother shapes, better shadows, and more natural lighting without bloating performance costs.
For Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, this translates to a noticeable improvement in how characters look, and it could mark a turning point for more lifelike humans in games moving forward. The technology will roll out this September as part of the game’s real-time path tracing update, which coincides with the launch of the Order of Giants DLC.
